The South Coast has a plethora of lakes, rivers, creeks and streams to make any angler's expedition a success. In town with kids? Empire Lakes off Newmark Avenue in Coos Bay at John Topits Park is a favorite destination.
The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife routinely stocks the lake with rainbow trout. There are areas to sit along shore to fish. You'll see locals fishing with everything from worms and cheese, to rooster tails, spoons and PowerBait. Sometimes you'll even see a fly fisherman.
Bring sunscreen and a lawn chair.

Sporting good and outdoor stores have current regulations and the ODFW issues weekly recreation reports on its web site at www.dfw.state.or.us/RR/.
