2 Hike some nearby falls

Take a hike in eastern Coos County. At 130 feet high, Elk Creek Falls may not be the Oregon version of Niagara Falls, but it is worth the short hike.
What is striking about the falls is not necessarily the water, it's the surroundings. The trail takes hikers to the base of the falls, where the green of the rocks contrasted with the white water makes it seem almost fairy-like. But be careful, the rocks can be slippery. The area around the falls has Big Tree Park, which includes the largest Port Orford cedar.

The falls are located of off the Powers Highway, State Highway 242, outside of Powers. To get there from Coos Bay, take 101 South to Highway 42, follow this to State Highway 242, which turns into State Forest Road No. 33.
