60 Explore a coast trail

Need to escape civilization for a hike in the forest?Head toward Cape Arago State Park.

A couple of miles before Cape Arago Highway dead-ends there are loads of, normally empty (and free) parking spots along the way to park your vehicle and get out there into the forest.

Be prepared to get your boots, or running shoes, sopping wet along several miles of cliff coastline. For the uber-adventurous, on your walking trip back north, don't cover the same old ground ” take the Cape Arago Pack Trail. The views aren't spectacular, but you'll find yourself confronting short, steep trails and glorious, and often drenched ferns reaching out for your ankles. Downright primordial.
