66 Applaud Teen Idol contestants

The Bay Area Teen Idol competition provides entertainment, often to crowds of 200 or more, throughout the summer.

Beginning July 10, 18 local teenagers will be singing at summer festivals, fairs and weekly events at the Egyptian Theatre, until one of them is crowned the winner Sept. 20 at the Bay Area Fun Festival in September in Coos Bay.

The contest promotes alcohol- tobacco- and drug-free activities for youth. Regular elimination rounds are held at the Hales Center for the Performing Arts at Southwestern Oregon Community College. Watch for scheduling information in The World or at
