78 Windsurf some waves

You'd be hard-pressed to find a better spot for windsurfing in summer than the South Coast. High temperatures, consistent swells and strong winds make it a haven for the sport. Some of the best locales include offshore areas at Port Orford and Pistol River.
Also, don't miss Floras Lake. Located at Boice-Cope Park just south of Langlois and west of U.S. Highway 101, the lake provides consistent wind and smooth water for experts and beginners. Its geographical location makes it ideal for windsurfing. Only 150 feet from the ocean, the lake is exposed to the consistent, prevailing northwest winds common during the summer months. Water temperature remains in the low 60s throughout the sailing season, making it a relatively comfortable place to windsurf.

The lake also is favorable for beginners. It averages only 5 to 6 feet deep across the entire lake.

If you're staying near Coos Bay, try the bay itself or Tenmile Lakes at Lakeside once the wind picks up mid-morning.
