94 Sunbathe at Loon Lake

Sunbathe at Loon Lake œGoing to the beach" means something entirely different in Oregon than it does in California. For those who want to go to a beach without having to bring a jacket, a good option is to head inland to Loon Lake.

There's a lot less wind a few miles away from the coast, and temperatures are significantly higher as well, making sunbathing a realistic possibility. And the water is warm enough to swim in. Volleyballs are available for checkout from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, which provides a campground open year-round at the north end of the lake. If the campground is full, don't despair. The Loon Lake Lodge and RV Resort offers accommodations with a motel, campsites and cabins.

The turnoff for Loon Lake is about 13 miles east of Reedsport on state Highway 38. At the turnoff, it's six miles on the county road to the lake.
