Some 5 million gaper clams, along with cockle and littleneck clams, reside in Coos Bay and are easily dug with a relatively low tide. Charleston is a prime spot.
Empire is a prime spot for gaper, steamer and butter clams across the bay from the Sunset Market. Razor clams sometimes can be dug at Bastendorff Beach and in Charleston.
